118th Airlift Wing ANG Nashville MAP, Tennessee C-130H 105th Airlift Squadron

The 105th AS is the wing's flying and has had the C-130H assigned since February 1990. The unit formed in World War I and operated as the 136th Squadron from 1921 until it was combined with 105th Observation Squadron in 1936. It was mobilized at Nashville Airport in September 1940 until disbanded in August 1943. The unit was federalized in February 1947 as the 105th Fighter Squadron flying P-47s, with active duty between March 1951 and December 1952. The squadron became the 105th TRS with the RF-51D, followed by the RF-80A in September 1954. The transport role began in April 1961 when the 105th Air Transport Squadron received the C-97G followed by the C-124C in April 1967, having changed to a Military Airlift Squadron in January 1966. It became a Tactical Airlift Squadron in March 1971, switching to the C-130A, with the 118th TAG elevated to Wing status in February 1975.
